Arimidex ; developed for the purpose of fighting breast cancer, and while often used by performance enhancing athletes who supplement with anabolic steroids, it is not an anabolic steroid. Arimidex belongs to the Aromatase Inhibitor (AI) family, and while its often referred to as an anti-estrogen medication as is the popular SERM Nolvadex (Tamoxifen Citrate) in this case, the term anti-estrogen actually holds a little more truth. As you know, estrogen is one of the primary enemies of a breast cancer patient, and Arimidex has the ability to lower estrogen levels; in-fact, it can reduce your levels by as much as 80%. Of course, performance enhancers are well aware of this estrogen reducing trait, and that is largely why theyve grabbed ahold of this AI, but thats as well see not all it can do. With these things in mind, lets take a look at Arimidex, and then you can decide if supplementation is right for you. It must be noted; our discussion will largely revolve around performance enhancement and will not attempt to go into the realm of breast cancer treatment.

Primary Traits & Actions:

Those who supplement with Arimidex have a powerful AI that does exactly what an AI implies; inhibits aromatase. As you understand, many anabolic androgenic steroids aromatase; the process by-which testosterone is converted to estrogen. As this process occurs and estrogen levels increase, this can lead to some of the most commonly associated anabolic steroid related side-effects; most notably Gynecomastia and excess water retention. Through supplementation, Arimidex will inhibit this process from occurring, and further, reduce the total amount of estrogen in your body providing even more protection.

While on-cycle protection is the main reason most performance enhancers will use Arimidex, officially known as Anastrozole its estrogen reducing and anti-aromatase properties are not all this AI is good for; far from it. Arimidex actually has the ability to promote the production of natural testosterone, and it does a fairly good job. By its nature, Arimidex has the ability to stimulate both Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH); the primary pituitary derived hormones that stimulate the testicles to produce testosterone upon release. Through this relationship, total testosterone levels can be increased significantly; no, your testosterone levels cannot be increased at the same rate as they can be with exogenous testosterone supplementation, but it can still be substantial.

Increasing Testosterone:

While Arimidex can increase natural testosterone production, its normally not our recommended method of increasing such levels; for two reasons. Some reports have shown Arimidex has the ability to increase natural testosterone production by as much as 50%, and on this basis it would be an excellent Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) tool, but due to its estrogen reduction properties it is not recommended. While increasing testosterone is one of the main points in a PCT plan, the overall plan surrounds normalizing your body, and tremendously low levels of estrogen isnt normal. The second reason we dont like it surrounds the testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) patient, and this surrounds the lowered estrogen levels as well; too low for too long is not optimal. This leaves us with only one period of use that is suitable for the anabolic steroid user, and that is for on-cycle protection.

Total Supplementation:

In most cases, you will find 0.25mg to 0.5mg of Arimidex on an every other day basis to be enough to protect you from aromatase and the estrogenic related effects. This will protect against water retention and Gynecomastia, and it can even have a positive effect on blood pressure and cholesterol as high estrogen levels can contribute to throwing these out of line. If Gynecomastia still becomes a problem, you may find 1mg every other day to be needed, but if that doesnt do the trick you may want to give another AI a try such as Letrozole as its estrogen reducing properties are even greater. 1mg of Arimidex every other day is also a good dosing for physique minded individuals who are preparing for competition; very low estrogen levels will truly promote a dryer physique, and one thats harder; for contest purposes, you may find a 1mg dose every single day for the two weeks prior to competition to be beneficial. However, this is not a dose youll want to use for a long period of time, as a reduction in estrogen at this level for too long will be extremely unhealthy.
