Letrozole ; it is an Aromatase Inhibitor (AI) that is sometimes used to treat breast cancer and can commonly be found under the trade name Femera. One of the more potent AIs on the market, Letrozole is a long standing favorite in the performance enhancing community, and it is here you will find the use of this AI more so than anywhere else. Remarkably similar to Anastrozole (Arimidex), in many ways Letrozole is just more potent, and one of the best AIs on the market for Gynecomastia prevention. Sometimes found in Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) plans, it can serve this purpose fairly well, but it will remain on-cycle use to be its crowning achievement in-regards to popularity. With all this in mind, lets take a look at Letrozole, and then you can decide if supplementation is right for you.

Primary Traits & Actions

While commonly found in the arsenal of anabolic steroid users, Letrozole is not an anabolic steroid; AIs are not anabolic steroids and are generally useless when it comes to significant performance enhancement. By its natural mode of action, this AI often referred to as Letro like all AIs will inhibit the aromatase enzyme thereby inhibiting the aromatase process which refers to the conversion of testosterone into estrogen. Further, through supplementation total estrogen levels can be reduced by as much as 98%, and by both traits we can begin to see how useful this AI can be. For the breast cancer patient, estrogen is the primary enemy; now estrogen has been reduced. For the anabolic steroid user, estrogen can also be an enemy as many of the common steroidal side-effects are due to the buildup of this hormone. Numerous anabolic steroids aromatize, and as aromatizing occurs and estrogen levels increase problems may occur.

While estrogen control is this AIs primary point of use, Letrozole also has the ability to significantly increase natural testosterone production, and this will be virtually identical to the manner by-which Arimidex pulls off the same feat. By its natural mode of action, Letrozole stimulates the release of both Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormones (FSH); two pituitary derived hormones that signal to the testicles to make testosterone. Assuming the testicles are in proper working order, when more LH and FSH are present, especially LH more testosterone will be produced; its as simple as that.

On-Cycle Supplementation

As many anabolic steroids aromatize, common side-effects such as Gynecomastia (male breast enlargement) and water retention can become a problem as estrogen levels increase; excess estrogen can even have an adverse effect on blood pressure and cholesterol. In-order to provide yourself protection, Letrozole can be a fine choice, as by its mode of action discussed above aromatase will be blocked and estrogen levels will be reduced. While this is true, where Letrozole will really shine is in-regards to Gynecomastia, as it is the only AI that has the ability to reverse the symptoms if they are caught early on; if ignored and allowed to set in, no amount of Letro will help you.

While on-cycle use can be tremendously advantageous, it comes with an important note; this is not something youll want to use year round, as suppressed estrogen levels at this magnitude for too long can be hard on your health. The best time to use Letrozole is when on a full blown cycle of heavily aromatizing steroids; of course, some are so sensitive to aromatase effects theyll have to use some form of AI each and every time they supplement with anabolic steroids. Nevertheless, youll want to keep your dose as low as possible for as long as possible, and only use higher doses when absolutely necessary for short periods of time. In some cases, if youre supplementing responsibly it may be possible to supplement with anabolic steroids without the use of an AI, but its always best to keep one on hand; theres no point in being caught off-guard.

Testosterone Promotion

As discussed above, by its LH and FSH stimulating properties Letrozole can increase natural testosterone production; some have said it can be by as much 50%, but this may be slightly exaggerated. Even so, it will be substantial, and due to this fact some physicians will prescribe Letro to low testosterone patients; we are not fans of this method. If you suffer from low testosterone, you will need continuous testosterone therapy; there is no cure for low testosterone, only remedy. Due to this fact, if you are using Letrozole for your remedy youll also be suppressing estrogen levels dramatically and indefinitely, and this simply wont do. Of course, this begs the question; why do some physicians prescribe Letrozole and other AIs for low testosterone treatment if they has this adverse effect? The reason is simple; for the low testosterone patient the best remedy is exogenous testosterone supplementation, and it is the only thing guaranteed to work; however, as testosterone is an anabolic steroid many physicians are petrified. Your body is lacking testosterone, you need testosterone, but instead of giving you what you need out of a fear that is unfounded some physicians will beat around the bush and possibly cause you even more damage.

Due to the above, Letrozole is in our opinion a horrible low testosterone treatment medication, and it is for those same reasons we cannot recommend its use for Post Cycle Therapy (PCT). Many performance enhancers will complete a PCT plan after discontinuing anabolic steroid use in an effort to speed up testosterone recovery that has been suppressed while on cycle. On its surface, Letrozole seems like the perfect choice, and as a PCT period will only last four to six weeks, although estrogen levels will be suppressed it wont be that long. Even so, while testosterone recovery is a major part of a PCT plan, the overall plan surrounds normalization; normalizing your body with all your hormone levels in proper range; if Letrozole is being used this is an impossibility.
